The Fishermen’s Shed
Our humble headquarters at the Fishermen’s Yard, Port Royal, Sidmouth provides a welcome place for us to meet, and a micro space for art and wellbeing workshops.
We use it creatively as an occasional bar supporting community events and even as a micro cinema.
Repurposed back in 2020, rented from Sidmouth Town Council, it provides a sense of connection for us to our coastal environment and fishing heritage.
Restoration
Lovingly restored with recycled materials, the space is a place to share stories and connect with others. We used an old timber storm board to create our central workstation which seats 6 participants for our facilitated workshops.
The restoration began with a new window, sliding door, electrics, lighting, a replastered ceiling, floor screeding and was initially funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
The importance of small scale to develop confidence to try something new and creative without being overwhelmed by a large group, was central to our vision for the shed.
Workshops
Our workshops have included gyotaku (Japanese fish printing, card making, storytelling, kite and bunting crafting, lino and silk screen printing, life drawing and wreath making.
Workshops are programmed seasonally – watch this space to see what’s on and how to book.
