Community Garden

Community Gardens are a place to meet people, get outdoors and active, sit, chat and relax.

They help to strengthen our connections to nature, improve public space for everyone to enjoy as well as improving conditions so that local biodiversity can thrive.

Awarded a Level 5 Outstanding It’s Your Neighbourhood Award in 2023 by the Royal Horticultural Society.  We established the Coral Reef Community Garden and Wave Border Garden in 2021 working collaboratively with others to share skills and volunteers.

Gardening partners include The Friday Gardeners (local residents) Sidmouth In Bloom, Sidmouth Arboretum, Sid Valley Biodiversity Group, Friends of the Byes, the Sid Vale Association and Sidmouth Town Council.

Improving unloved spaces for the benefit of the community with a core focus on Port Royal led to these successful projects that are now a part of everyday life in Sidmouth enjoyed by both residents and visitors to Sidmouth.

New planting and landscaping, art and sculptural pebble seating by artist sculptor Ben Barrell has helped us to transform these once neglected spaces.  Bird and bat boxes as well as The Grand Bugapest Hotel!  Have helped to welcome and provide habitats for animals and insects that are vital to the ecosystem.

Outdoor workshops with children and volunteering opportunities help to foster a sense of place and protection for these spaces.

Situated by the Ham, these garden spaces connect with the Fish Wall Mural – another of our art projects that continue to engage and be enjoyed by children and adults alike.

You will find each of these nurturing spots as you walk to and from the sea front in Sidmouth.
