Our workshops integrate art, filleting and cooking and the history of fishing communities in Devon through creating an informal classroom environment for children from 3 years to 18.
Children and young people learn a Japanese fish printing method – Gyotaku, create art from observational drawings of seasonal fish and a range of other art activities.
Alongside the artwork children and young people learn about identifying, filleting and cooking with fresh fish, and have a go themselves.
This hands on approach provides a fun and accessible way for children of mixed age and abilities to learn and experiment with a new creative skill alongside learning informally about seasonal and inshore fishing and heritage.
The transformation is clear where our approach builds confidence and enables children to realise the connections they have with the sea and coast.

This lovely film shows, through the eyes and voices of the children and young people, the fun they have through bringing art, fish and fishing knowledge, heritage, filleting, cooking and eating together, to create a rich learning, confidence building experience.
