Sidmouth Makes Art (SMArt) Project

We were awarded funding by the Arts Council England in 2021 to support a two-year public art project with seven different community art initiatives within it. The purpose is to develop Sidmouth people as the artists and Sidmouth as the artwork.

We are working with Sidmouth School of Art in partnership and all of the SMArt projects and new artworks are hosted on the SSA website.

Our projects

The projects include Riverside Walkway Revitaled, Sidmouth Wallspace (public gallery in Ham carpark), Sidmouth Flag Festival, Peace Garden Mural, Museums of Antiquities and of Contemporary Art – telephone box art spaces, CODEX Digital and Print Young People’s identity project and Sidmouth Faces – ceramic installation.

Our Community

Each of the projects is helping people in our community to connect with each other and the space around us, raising awareness about our natural and marine environment. The confidence building approach supports wellbeing and a positive sense of community belonging and purpose.
